What is Care Credit and How Does it Work?
Care Credit was founded in 1987 that started as a credit card specifically for dental care. It has been built as a specialty credit card to cover care for locations that are not typically covered by your basic medical insurance, pet care being one of them.
Care Credit is a type of credit card that offers accommodation for financial assistance in many different medical professions but in this blog, I will just be focusing on pet care.
I’m sure that if you are reading this, you are either thinking about getting a pet or already have a pet who has seen the veterinarian at one point or another. I am sure you have figured out how expensive it can be!
Well, I completely understand. The good news is, there are options for you.
If you haven’t already, take a look at my post about pet insurance companies where I dive into why you should consider pet insurance for your pets and when is the best time to look into it. I also go into some great options to start with!
A lot of times, even pet owners who have pet insurance do not necessarily have the funds to put money up front for their veterinary bills. This is where Care Credit can help! It can also help if you do not have pet insurance.
I have pet insurance for my pets so personally like to put the funds owed up front on my Care Credit card and then pay off my balance when I receive reimbursement from my pet’s insurance. The best thing is, many veterinary hospitals offer 6- months interest free financing through Care Credit.
That’s wonderful news when you’re waiting for your reimbursement check to come in!
The Benefits of Using Care Credit for Veterinary Expenses
As mentioned previously, veterinary bills are expensive, especially those unexpected emergency bills. Let’s face it, we all don’t want our pets to have an emergency. We want them to be safe and sound in their beds at home.
Well, I hate to break it to you but that day may come. Trust me when I say, I don’t want it to happen either. If I am being honest, your pet coming into the emergency hospital means that the hospital will be busier and no one wants that!
If that time comes, you are going to have to make some decisions for the treatment plan for your pet. Being in this facility a long time, I know how expensive those treatment plans can be. That’s where Care Credit comes in. I want to stress that you can use pet insurance can be used in conjunction with Care Credit which will make your decision making process that much easier.
With Care Credit, you are now able to buy yourself a buffer between paying the full bill immediately, up front and paying the bill over 6 months interest free. I don’t know about you but I would definitely choose the second option.
You can use Care Credit for numerous things at your veterinarian which makes the visit less stressful for you and your pet.
Here is a list of things you can use a Care Credit card for at your vet:
Even better, Care Credit can be used at other locations other than at the veterinarian.
Here are a list of places you can use Care Credit in addition to the veterinary office:
Step By Step Instructions to Apply
I am sure if you got to this point you are asking how do I apply because who wouldn’t want to with all these benefits!
Well, its very easy to apply online but before you do, take a look at exactly you could use Care Credit for so that you know that you are applying to it for a reason. The last thing I want for my readers is any debt which is why I recommend going with interest free financing and paying it off before that period ends.
They also have a number to call and apply but in my personal opinion, I think the easiest way is online. Then you don’t need to wait on hold or really talk to anyone about your personal information.
Step 1:
Go To CareCredit.com
Step 2:
On the top right corner, you will see a green “Apply” Box. Click that
Step 3:
Select your category and click apply
At this point, the system will start asking you some personal questions. Something to note, at the top of the next page it is written that you can apply with no effect on your credit score. In my opinion, that is a huge plus in addition to all the other benefits Care Credit has.
I do want to forewarn you that not every veterinary hospital takes Care Credit, so if you are going to be using it for your veterinary care, I would first recommend either finding a veterinarian who does take Care Credit or asking the veterinarian which financial assistance they do take.
Peace Of Mind
In conclusion, there are many benefits to having Care Credit for your veterinary needs. They can be used in conjunction with pet insurance and can be used at other locations that is out of the veterinary world.
Care Credit, among other financial assistance can help give you the peace of mind and means of making decisions for your pet without the sole thought being finances.
Wouldn’t you want the ability to pay for your pet’s care over time rather than up front?
